What to Expect During a Personal Branding Photo Session

No awkward posing. No guesswork. Just you, your story, and a camera.

If you've ever thought about booking a branding session but talked yourself out of it because you weren't sure what it actually involved — this post is for you. I hear it all the time from business owners here in the Pell City area: "I'm not photogenic," "I wouldn't know what to do," or "I don't want it to feel weird and stiff."

I get it. Having a camera pointed at you while someone tells you to "look natural" is not most people's idea of a good time. But a branding session done right feels nothing like that. Here's exactly what the process looks like from start to finish.

It starts way before the shoot day

A good branding session is built on a foundation of planning. Before we ever pick up a camera, we have a conversation — about your business, your ideal clients, the feeling you want people to get when they land on your website or scroll your Instagram. This isn't small talk. It shapes everything: the locations we choose, the outfits we plan, the props we bring, the energy we're going for.

I'll send you a planning guide ahead of time with prompts to help you think through what you want your brand to look and feel like. You don't need to have all the answers — that's what the planning conversation is for. We figure it out together.

The best branding photos don’t look like photos. They look like a window into someone’s world.

What the day actually looks like

Here's a simple breakdown of how a typical branding session flows:

What to bring

Every session is different depending on your business, but here's a general list to get you thinking: two outfits that feel like you (not costumes — just you on a good day), any props that tell your story like a laptop, notebook, coffee mug, or products you sell, and a list of three to five feelings you want people to have when they see your photos. Calm? Energized? Trustworthy? Fun? That list will guide us more than you'd think.

What happens after

After your session, I cull through everything and deliver your edited gallery within 14 business days. You'll receive a mix of horizontal and vertical shots, close-ups and wide angles, posed and candid — everything you need to show up consistently and confidently across every platform.

Most clients walk away with at least 20 images from a single session, but depending on the package you choose, you may have 60+ images. That's months of content without ever scrambling for something to post.

The thing nobody tells you

Almost every client tells me the same thing after their session: "That was so much easier than I thought it would be." The nerves are real going in — and then somewhere around the first ten minutes, they just disappear. Because we're not doing a photoshoot. We're telling your story. And nobody knows that story better than you do.

If you're a small business owner in the Pell City or St. Clair County area and you've been putting off getting professional photos, consider this your sign. Your clients are out there right now searching for someone exactly like you. Let's make sure they can find you — and that when they do, they're impressed by what they see.
