10 Questions to Ask Before Booking a Senior Photographer

Don't book until you can answer all of these.

Booking a senior photographer feels simple on the surface — you find someone whose photos you love, you reach out, you pick a date. But the difference between a session you're obsessed with and one you feel lukewarm about almost always comes down to the details you either did or didn't ask about upfront.

As a photographer, I genuinely love when families come to consultations with questions. It tells me they're invested, they know what they want, and they're going to show up prepared. So here are the ten questions I'd encourage every Alabama senior family to ask before signing anything — including me.

The right photographer will welcome every single one of these questions. The wrong one will get defensive.

💡 Bonus Tip: Save this list to your phone before you reach out to anyone. Running through these questions in a consultation doesn't make you difficult — it makes you prepared. Any photographer worth booking will appreciate it.

A Note From Us

If you're a senior or senior family here in the Pell City or St. Clair County area and you're starting to research photographers, I'd love the chance to answer every single one of these questions for you. My planning process, my style, my turnaround times, my rain policy — all of it is something I'm happy to talk through before you commit to anything.

Senior photos are a big deal. You deserve a photographer who treats them that way.

These are the locations I scout on my own — on drives, on walks, just paying attention. They're not on any list. They're not tagged on Instagram. And that's exactly what makes them special. When a senior's photos look unlike anything else their classmates have, it's usually because we found one of these spots.

What about traveling further for photos?

Sometimes seniors ask about shooting in Birmingham or other locations outside of Pell City, and that's absolutely something we can talk about. But in my experience, the best sessions often happen close to home — in the places that actually mean something to you, with backdrops that are genuinely local to where you grew up. There's something about that rootedness that shows up in the photos.

Plus, St. Clair County has more to offer than most people realize. You just have to know where to look — and that's our job.
